Members

The dedicated members of the Communication Reserve come from all walks of life. We have members who are in retail businesses, service industries, health services and construction. We have an engineer, a mental health therapist and an attorney who are Com Reserve members. Some of our members are retired and some are not. We have members with law enforcement backgrounds but most members are new to the field.

Having an amateur radio license is not a requirement to become a member, but most people who join Com Reserve will become ham radio operators.

Members supply their own uniforms and personal radio equipment. Most of the training is provided without any cost to members with the occasional exception where materials are needed and for CPR and First Aid training, which is required for all first responders.

In addition to First Aid and CPR training, Com Reserve members are trained in fireline safety, swift water awareness, hazardous materials and a number of other non-communication skills. Further training includes vehicle and equipment deployment and operation. We often cross-train with Butte County Sheriff's Search & Rescue.

We are actively seeking new members particularly those that have military, communications or public service backgrounds. We can not accept applicants who have a felony on their record. All applicants are finger printed with background checks by both the BCSO and DOJ. Having a amateur radio license is a bonus but not required.

If you are interested in becoming a member you can start by attending any of our meetings which are held on the first Wednesday of every month at 6:30 PM. The public is welcome but no late arrivals please. Applicants must be at least 18 years old.

If interested in more information, or attending a meeting, see our Contact Us page.
